We stayed in Leckmelm House, as our son wanted 'a stone cottage in the woods on the West Coast' for the October break. It ticks all of those perfectly! Very spacious and homely let, with particularly comfortable beds, good family living areas, and a very large wood burning fire in the middle of it all. The photos on the website are accurate. Blue skies every day (yes, there were!). The property sits above all the other Leckmelm Cottages, but still has amazing views across Loch Broom and out to the Summer Isles over the tree tops. The lack of light pollution really assists at night for fantastic star gazing too. Plenty outdoor fun to be had all around this area, Sea Loch fishing at Rhue was very successful and pleasant in the sunshine, and there are various trout lochs and lochans for trout. Good communication with the hardworking Beattie clan, and free range eggs from Danielle only added to the welcoming feel to this well run estate. Given it is a matter of literally a few minutes outside of Ullapool, the estate offers a bit more tranquility and space than closer to the village. We had dogs with us, but there was plenty of bed space for them in the very large Utility Room. Very pleasant, relaxing and definitely worth consideration if you are coming to this most beautiful part of our country :-)
